In 1981 my wife, Karen, and I began attending a fast growing church in Albuquerque, New Mexico called the Believer’s Center of Albuquerque. This church quickly became our church home, and the spiritual nurturing that we received there became the foundation of our future lives and ministry.
In 1985 we moved back to my home state of Colorado. We lived and attended church in Durango for 3 1/2 years. It was during these years that the Lord began to speak to our hearts about full time ministry. It was also in these years that the Lord put a vision in our hearts to plant a church in one of the smaller mountain communities on Colorado’s western slope. At that time, spirit-filled churches were nearly non-existent in this region. In 1988 the Lord spoke clearly to us about moving back to Albuquerque, finishing Bible College, and going to work at the Believer’s Center full time. It was a confusing moment in my life, because I felt sure that in some way we were supposed to bring the message of the Gospel to Western Colorado. The Lord assured us that in order to accomplish the work that He had for us, we must first return to Believer’s Center.
So we moved back to Albuquerque, and for the next eight years I had the privilege of serving on the staff of, what I believe to be, one of the finest churches in America. Then, in 1994, the Lord in no uncertain terms called us to start a church in Gunnison, Colorado. In June of 1996, after two years of prayer and preparation, and with our pastor’s blessing, we relocated again to Gunnison, Colorado to start Rocky Mountain Christian Ministries. Since then, we have watched in awe as the Lord has established a vital, Spirit-filled church in this small community. We now have the privilege of pastoring a wonderful group of people with a worldwide vision for ministry.
We believe that God has established Rocky Mountain Christian Ministries to be a spiritual resource center for the Gunnison Valley, the Western Slope of Colorado, and the entire Rocky Mountain region. We also believe that our mission extends to the ends of the earth. God is moving today in the smaller communities of America building strong “life-giving” churches like this one that are equipping people to take the Gospel to the farthest corners of the earth. Our mission is to impact the world with the Gospel of Jesus Christ by helping people establish a personal and intimate relationship with Him.
We believe that God has a plan and a purpose for every person that can only be discovered and fulfilled by living each day in close fellowship with God through Jesus Christ. We believe that every Christian has been specially gifted and anointed by God to fulfill a specific role in the church of Jesus Christ, and minister life to a lost and hurting world.
We believe that, as the Pastors of this church, it is our job to help believers grow to maturity in Christ through encouraging them to respond to the work of the Holy Spirit and the Word of God in their lives. Our deepest desire is to see each individual discover and fulfill their God-given destiny in Christ.
